Abstract: »The Catholic Church in Poland has historically been a significant cultural and political force, but recent trends indicate a shift in public perception and engagement. For several years, the discussion of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church in Poland has taken on a new dimension. Many cases of abuse – mostly individual – have been acknowledged, yet only a few have escalated into major public scandals. This is largely due to the role of the media and investigative journalists, who have played a crucial part in the years-long process of uncovering and exposing sexual crimes within the Catholic Church in Poland. The aim of this research is to analyze the role of the media in shaping public opinion on sexual abuse within the Polish Catholic Church. It seeks to examine the extent to which the media have initiated and sustained public discussion on the issue. In particular, the study explores how significantly the media have contributed to raising awareness and disseminating information about the scandals involving the Polish Catholic Church.« (Source: Annual Review of the Sociology of Religion)
